System for Ensuring Minimum Risk Conditions in the Event of Autonomous Vehicle Failures
The SAFE4CAR project at Carlos III University of Madrid (UC3M) is a research initiative that is developing an intelligent system to ensure minimal risk in autonomous vehicles in the event of unforeseen incidents on the road, by integrating communication with road infrastructure and evaluating the user experience.
The research is coordinated by Intelligent Systems Lab (LSI) in collaboration with other partner institutions, such as INSIA-UPM, and its main objectives are to expand the Operational Design Domain (ODD), manage fallback maneuvers, and improve Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) interaction. Additionally, it seeks to develop environmental perception tools and digital twins to train and validate driving algorithms in simulated high-risk scenarios.
